Who can volunteer?
Volunteers are vital members of the theatre team. Volunteering at The SandPit Theatre is a great way to get involved in supporting the theatre, and learning new skills. It can also be an enjoyable way to get some experience on your CV for later employment, or even just meet new friends.
What do our volunteers do?
Our volunteers work as part of the front of house team, providing assistance in the Theatre Café, and acting as Stewards for the performances. We expect our volunteers to be helpful and polite at customer service, as they will often be the first people the audience meet. They are also expected to dress in smart black clothing, and can purchase a Theatre polo shirt to wear if they like.
Some our volunteers are also trained in operating lighting and sound, and are given the opportunity to do so for performances. If you are interested in pursuing a career backstage, you will follow in the footsteps of our many young volunteers who have gone on to study technical theatre at college or university, having used their volunteering as the perfect platform to develop further in fields such as lighting, sound and stage management. They have then gone onto successful careers as theatre technicians!
What benefits are there of being a volunteer?
Volunteering at The SandPit comes with many benefits. You will be welcomed as part of the team, building good working relationships and given support and training if you choose to pursue an interest in our work. If you are just looking for an enjoyable past-time, the Theatre is the perfect place to spend your time, as you will be making an impact on supporting the community whilst being able to watch some of our productions.
